The Fashion Of The ’50s

by admin

Fashion in the 1950s bore strong resemblance from fashion trends of the past decades. While society was more progressive in previous years, this time the 50s marked circumspection, particularly in how people dressed and wore clothes.

While women enjoyed a lot of rights such as right to suffrage and work, they preferred to wear dresses manufactured out of lavish materials. Since the industry looked to emphasize trends from past decades, haute couture recovered from its slump. It also led to the arrival of star designers who became big earners thanks to their exposure to the media.

Parisian haute couture once again became an authority in fashion. Women looked up to three prominent couturiers. One of them was Cristobal Balenciaga, who broadened the shoulders of the silhouette as well as designed the tunic dress, one of the trendy items in the ’50s. Hubert de Givenchy was the brain behind the separates, of which clothes can be mixed and coordinated at will. Pierre Balmain is credited for the New Look, one of the more defining styles of the decade. He also created a RTW called Florilege, while creating a number of successful perfumes.

The ’50s also marked the return of popular designer Coco Chanel. She launched a collection that would soon become popular among women. The collection included braided suit, silk blouses, and complemented by shiny jewelry.

Mass manufactured clothing also became more popular during this decade. Europeans adapted the American way of clothing, which was characterized by broad shouldered shirts and straight-legged pants.

Fashion Design Sketches

by admin

The intense competition in the fashion industry makes it important for any fashion designer to showcase the designs to a larger audience. This can be done by creating fashion sketches and displaying them on the Internet. The sketches give an insight to the fashion fraternity and also to the common audience on the concept behind a particular fashion design. It is a way of communicating the theme to the people associated with the apparel industry. Hence, they are extremely important for any fashion designer.

Fashion sketches are illustrations made by professional artists and designed in a way that they can be easily displayed on the Internet. They portray the true creative genius of the designer. These can be considered a blue print of the final product. The perfection in making sketches is a prerequisite as they serve as the main marketing tool of the fashion professionals. The sketches reflect trends and the value added features of the design. They can also be used to evaluate the various patters used by different designers.

Fashion sketches are important, since they are the preliminary designs that have to be taken to the different apparel manufacturers in the market. The sketches are then used to select the different fabric samples from the wide range on offer.

Computers are increasingly being used for the purpose of making fashion design sketches. Several software are now available that assist the designers in making the drawings. While some still prefer the traditional hand-drawn sketches, others choose to opt for the speed and convenience of computer-aided designing. Hand-drawn sketches can also be fed into the computer with the help of a scanner.

The art of making fashion design sketches is important for creating a niche in the highly competitive fashion industry. Fashion designers can make their presence felt only if their sketches are different and original. Good quality sketches are the only means of establishing a firm foothold in the fashion industry.

Fashion – Latest Trends Influenced by Celebrities, But Make it Your Own

by admin

Is fashion influenced by Hollywood? When we see a popular celebrity wearing an amazing outfit, is it the latest trend? The editors of fashion magazines may think using famous people will influence “what’s hot and what’s not.” But what’s HOT on a model may be a NOT on many people!

I think there are many factors that sway us in certain directions when we go shopping. Ethnicity may be an influence. In certain cultures you have to dress a certain way. Showing a lot of leg may not be appropriate. Obviously how you are built is going to affect what type of clothes you buy. What a celebrity wears and looks incredible in may look unflattering on you. Money is a monumental influence when buying clothes. Most of us don’t make millions a year and therefore can’t afford to shop in the boutiques or stores our favorite actresses or actors frequent.

Even if we like what the hottest stars are wearing, why would we want to copy them. The marvelous, fun part of shopping is the statement we make when we put an outfit together. It doesn’t have to be a loud statement; just a subtle one that shows our individuality. If we dress just like Lindsey Lohan or Ashley Olsen we still won’t resemble them. When you see your favorite star on the cover of a magazine, it’s enticing you to buy that particular issue, which is exactly what the company wants you to do. Inside will most likely be a fashion spread featuring what the “It Girls” are wearing. In my opinion, use it as a guide and then tweak it with your own personality.

I like to be fashionable, comfortable, and not spend an absurd amount of money. There are many stores that sell the latest in stylish clothing for a very reasonable price. Old Navy, The Gap and The Loft are some. You can buy jeans, T’s, clothes for the office and still have money left over for shoes.

I enjoy the magazine ads and TV commercials that feature beautiful celebrities. Maybe on occasion I will be influenced to buy a bracelet I see. But as far as clothes, I think I’ll stick with what looks good on me. Maybe my low-rise jeans with the stitching on the back pockets and weathered longer length t-shirt with flip-flops to match, will influence someone’s fashion style.
